CLASS PARENTS

Class Parents are selected each academic year by the teacher.  One parent may do this role on his/her own, or two parents may also hare this role.  Class Parents' primary function is to help fill the gap when teachers need help and to relay important school communications to familites in your classroom.  Being a class parent doesn't mean you do all of the work, rather, you should be able to delegate assignments to fellow parents and solicit help and support as needed.  This is a leadership, community building, and collaborative role!

Responsibilities include:

  • Meet with the teacher to discuss the role they would like the Class Parent to play

  • Collect the names and phone numbers of all the parents in the class and organize a class WhatsApp group to foster community and provide support

  • Recruit other parents to help in the duty of  Class Parents. Finding a co-Class Parent can make the job easier!

  • Meet with other Class Parents and/or the Parent Coordinator on a monthly basis

  • At least one Class Parent must attend all of the general meetings of PS 282's PTO

  • Organize class parties and enrichment opportunities

  • Send out reminders--via email, chat, or flyers that go home with students--about upcoming projects, events, meetings, field trips, fundraising, and needs for volunteers

  • Act as a resource by answering questions for parents new to the school or class
