Park Slope School 282 is a diverse PreK-8 school in NYC School District 13 with around 950 students across all grades. Since 2014 it has been led by Principal Rashan Hoke,a veteran teacher with 10 years of classroom experience as well as experience with NYC Teaching Fellows program and Children’s Aid Society. PS/MS 282’s approach focuses on building lifetime learning skills in children through a mix of strong curriculum, engaging experiences, and growing children’s social/emotional well being through strong relationships.
The school has a rich history of strong extra-curricular activities including winning citywide and national awards in chess, sports and a notable music program and “green zone” that uses gardens in classrooms and around the school to foster education. Academically, in 2016, our students tested among District 13’s leading schools.
“As I see Park Slope School 282, the experiences that our children have here are the sparks that can fulfill William Butler Yeats’ definition of education as ‘… not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.’,” says Principal Rashan Hoke. “We are sparking the fires of learning and are sending tomorrow’s scientists, chess champions, musicians, poets and engineers out into the world.”
