What We Offer at PS 282

PS 282 offers 3K-5th Grade Classrooms; including the Autism Horizons Program, Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT), and General Education.

Autism Horizons Program

The Autism Horizons Program is provided in a self-contained classroom.  All of the children in the classroom have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with needs that cannot be met in a general education classroom. They are taught by special education teachers who provide specialized instruction.

General Education

General Education K-5 classrooms are taught by one teacher.  There is usually at least one GE classroom per grade level, but that number may vary depending on interest and qualifying students.

Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT)

Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classrooms are designed to create a challenging and enriching learning environment for both general education students (60% of the class) and children with Individualized Education Plans (40% of the class). The class is co-taught by two teachers, a general education teacher and a special education teacher.  These two teachers work as a team to make any necessary adaptations to methods and techniques to meet the needs of all students.  The curriculum and expectations are identical to any other classroom of that grade.  PS 282 usually has one ICT class in each grade.

Individualized Education Program (IEP)

More information about IEP’s and how to get started with the program can be found on the NYC Public Schools’ site here – Integrated Education Program (IEP).
