Meals at PS 282
Daily menus are listed on the NYC Public School’s website.
Breakfast
All students may be dropped off in the PS 282 breakfast area in the cafeteria beginning at 7:30 am. Students must arrive before 8:05 am. At that time, they will walk over to their assigned location to meet their teachers.
3K and Pre-K Mid-morning Snack
Depending on the classroom, some students in 3K and Pre-K are given a mid-morning snack, and in some classrooms this only happens on special occasions. These are typically provided by individuals or class families. Please be mindful of classroom allergies.
Lunch
The NYC Public Schools Office of School Nutrition administers the school lunch program. Children may bring lunch from home or they can eat school lunches.
Children in 3K and Pre-K eat lunch family style in their classrooms.
Grades K-5 eat in the cafeteria.

Allergy, Autoimmune Disorders and Dietary Restrictions
PS 282 is not a nut-free school; however, we take allergies, autoimmune disorders, and dietary restrictions very seriously.
If your child has an allergy or a medical condition requiring dietary accommodations (e.g., Celiac Disease, which is an autoimmune disorder), please notify via email: their teacher, Mrs. Collie-Cyrus, and Mrs. Thorman, PS 282’s Intervention/Prevention Specialist. You can also click HERE to learn more about 504 Accommodations provided by the NYPS.
During lunch, students with allergies or dietary restrictions may sit at the allergy-free table: it is the first table in the cafeteria as you enter.

Recess
PS 282 Lunch and Recess are combined sessions.
- 3K – 2nd graders have lunch and recess from 10:55-11:45.
- 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have lunch with recess from 11:50-12:40.
Children go outside daily unless there is ice on the playground, it is raining, or the temperature falls below freezing. When they must stay indoors, recess is typically in the gym. Our 3K and Pre-K children will engage in activities to get some exercise in their classrooms or in the hallway.
Please dress your children for the weather.
School staff monitor recess while individual classroom teachers have lunch.
Rest
Our 3K and Pre-K children rest for 50 minutes every day.
